Day 6 I believe it is?
Once again not too much to update. I started out my morning by watching an Orange Pringles can float by. I thought that would be the most interesting thing I would see in the sea besides the flying fish but I actually got to see multiple dolphins twice today. Its amazing how clear the water is out here that you can see them even when they are swimming underwater. We will 'supposedly' be passing an island tomorrow. Yay for land. I guess one part of the experience I did not take in to account would be the variation of people I would meet aboard the ship and the stories I would hear. I have learned much about other states and today met a girl who flew to the Bahamas from China all by herself. She has only been to the United States once and I have sympathy for her knowing that her experience is fresher and much newer than mine. I can only imagine how alone she feels. There are a few other students from Asia aboard but she said she only knows one. Her English was well spoken and I didn't get a chance to ask her how she learned it but it was interesting to hear about how they name their children in China with simple names so that it is easier for them to raise them. She compared it to the United States and how many Chris and Victorias there were on the ship. I met her while she was trying to find a student on the ship named Matt and she was unaware that Matt was short for Mathew. Its intriguing to be able to note and recognize the different cultural barriers around the world. I also ate dinner with a girl from Trinidad who grew up and still lives in Oregon. (Chris- She mentioned something called Pigeons Point and told me when I visited you to check it out. We will have to discuss this) I also learned today that there is quick sand in Arkansas. I don't think I've heard about quick sand except for in movies. Listening to everybody's stories is starting to get me really excited for the upcoming countries. I feel like I've already learned so much and the trip is barely underway. We lose another hour tonight for the third night in a row and only have to lose about another two. Almost there! I've begun to compare the days on the ship to the movie 'Ground Hogs Day' when the day just keeps repeating itself. Every day seems to be the same and they are beginning to run into each other. In a way though I don't want to get off the ship (We aren't allowed to call it a boat). There is something about the open ocean that is so magical and I'm gaining a greater appreciation for it. I guess that is what this trip is really about. As of now, if given the opportunity I would definitely do the trip again. P.s. I get a 10% discount on another voyage since I will be a SAS (Semester at Sea) Alumni. I'm just saying. Anyway it is around 1 o'clock on the ship and time to go to bed so I can relive today and yesterday and the day before that all over again. I can't really complain.
